Mise en scene

Mise en scene is a french word meaning 'placing on the scene'. This is quite a simple thing. It simply is a picture and the ways to describe it. This could be things like shot size, people, body language, lighting etc. Its something i find quite amazing. You could be given a picture and its the way you derive meaning from it. Like how we link dark lighting to be evil/scary, or how if you were given a picture of two girls laughing-you would thing they are the best of friends and happy. These things create an emotion and set a mood.
